Food and eating are truly more fun in the Philippines. Discover this as the country’s regions showcase their local delicacies and food products they are famous for.

More than 190 producers and manufacturers from all over the country will be offering a variety of the finest fresh and processed food products in a trade fair slated on July 12 to 15 at the Megatrade Halls 2 and 3 in SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City.

Billed as “EATS more fun in the Philippines”, the event is one of the highlights of this year’s MSME (micro, small and medium enterprises) Development Week celebrations.

From Northern Luzon, there will be vegetables and coffee from the province of Kalinga, honey and vinegar from Benguet, and bagnet and longanisa from the Ilocos provinces.

MSME-participants will exhibit organic and unpolished rice produced in Nueva Ecija, dessert and other delicacies from Pampanga and Laguna, and malunggay food products from Batangas.

Pinangat and pili products from Bicol, sukang pinakurat from Cebu, and fruit-flavored wines from Agusan del Sur will also be among the gastronomic delights on sale.

Enterprising individuals from the regions are encouraged to take advantage of the agricultural produce such as fruits and vegetables within their geographical areas to produce delicacies and other specialty foods that are much sought after by food-loving Filipinos here and abroad.

“With the growing popularity of the weekend markets in Metro Manila, the food business offers many opportunities for business-minded individuals to start up their own enterprise,” according to the Bureau of MSME Development of the Department of Trade and Industry.

An economist believed that the Philippines this year would continue to have competitive advantages in the food and beverage as well as in the furniture and paper industries.  —
