MERZCI NEWLY RENOVATED BRANCH | LIBERTAD MARKET BACOLOD CITY

Merzci is a one stop shop pasalubong center that offers products that Negros and Panay Islands are known for. They produce affordable and yummy sweet treats like piaya, otap, biscocho and a lot of other bakery products. A family business that started in 1995, Merzci is the market brand of CM & Sons Food Products, Inc. After more than twenty years Merzci has already established itself in the pasalubong center industry and has branched out nationwide. Some products are also exported by distributors to Canada, USA and other parts of the world.
I remember it used to be called Merci, but I learned later that it underwent rebranding last October 2014 from Merci to Merzci. Presently it has already opened more than 40 outlets nationwide.

The Libertad-Mabini branch is said to be Merzci’s first store which opened on November 15, 1995. It recently underwent a major renovation to serve Bacolodnons even better. This branch will make waves for the company because aside from the pasalubong goodies that they sell they will also be serving scrumptious and affordable short order meals. By the invitation of Ms. Femmy Magbanua, Marketing Manager of Merzci, I attended the opening of the new Mabini-Libertad branch last November 11. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was officiated by Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran and some of Merzci’s ManCom staff. The atmosphere was festive and people outside the store were so excited that after the ribbon-cutting, fellow Negros Blogger Ed Joven and I witnessed how people from all walks of life literally rushed in to buy their goodies or to order food.

The first floor is divided into two parts. The right side is where you can order meals and where pasalubong goodies like piaya, ube piaya, egg crackers, biscocho, caramel tarts, pineapple and mango tarts, loaves of bread are carefully displayed. The left part of the ground level serves as a bakeshop where cakes, mamon, cupcakes are freshly baked and chilled. We were assisted to the second level where snacks were served. Then, Jojo Vito (my co-blogger at The Happy Trip & Top on My List) arrived and we all had filling snacks of spaghetti, buttered fried chicken, siopao, cassava cake and assorted tarts. Ms. Femmy was gracious enough to entertain us and she introduced us to Ms. Joanne Paypon, Merzci’s Mabini-Libertad Branch Manager. I noticed the cleanliness of the place despite the number of people rushing in and out. Even the restroom is kept clean. I hope they will be able to maintain this in the future.

For the budget-friendly meals and short orders, known best sellers are batchoy (P41), lomi (P41), sotanghon guisado (P39), bihon guisado (P37), pancit molo (P37), chicken siopao (P27) and pork siopao (P27). Rice meals like sizzling sisig with rice, lumpiang shanghai with rice, chopsuey with rice, chicken and spaghetti meal are also big hits for those on the go especially students from a nearby university. As we were about to leave, more customers came in as it was already time for lunch.

Aside from this newly-renovated Mabini-Libertad branch, Merzci has branches and dealers all over the city and some Negros provinces and even reaching as far as Tuguegarao City up North in Luzon, Zamboanga City, Cebu, Panay, and Manila. Soon they will open in Guinhulngan, Negros Oriental.
