GoPay, Paving the Way for a Cashless Ecosystem

Globe’s GCash, the leading mobile money service provider recently launched Philippines’ first QR payment through SmartPhone. This development anticipates a new landscape of the way Filipinos will be paying for any of their purchases.

The newest feature of GCash app is dubbed as “GoPay”. This feature will allow customers to utilize their GCash account to pay for purchases (goods and services) they made. The feature is quite interesting as the payment will be made by simply scanning the QR codes displayed by the sellers or stores.

For sure, many customers will be delighted by this feature as this will eliminate the hassle and even the danger of bringing too much cash every day as well as waiting for the change when purchasing something. On the other hand, any business establishment or merchants would no longer procure expensive machines to facilitate mobile money transactions. All they need is the QRs with a unique code that is linked to their GCash wallet.

This development of making the QR codes available for all, even the mobile vendor as well as the Sari-Sari Store owners will surely facilitate the realization of a cashless society. Which means a speedy, convenient and secure transaction for both the consumers and the sellers.

“Our objective has always been to make finance more comprehensive by creating a cashless ecosystem. GoPay QR payments solution will close the loop and encourage sellers to accept GCash payments. We are poised to extend this service from all types of retailers all over the country down to our favorite fish ball vendor.” said John Rubio CEO and President of Mynt, a subsidiary of Globe Telecom dedicated to developing payments solutions using GCash.

“JM Aujero, Mynt Merchant Acquiring Head added: With GoPay QR, anyone need not bring cash when they go shopping or even when they dine out. This feature is the best option for people who do not want to use credit cards but are either conscious and not comfortable of having too much cash with them due to safety reasons or just want the comfort that mobile money offers.”

To use GoPay, all you have to do is to download or update the latest version of the GCash App on your android smartphone or iPhone. After which you must register your account and load an amount to your GCash wallet There are more than 12,000 GCash Partner Outlets all over the country.
After this, you need to open the GCash App and swipe left on the page. The GCash App will bring up the phone’s camera, at which point he has to “scan” a partner store’s QR code and enter the amount to be paid.

GoPay will be rolled out within the next few weeks at select partner stores. Its introduction is in line with the core of Ant Financial, the mother company of Alipay and strategic partner of Mynt, to hasten financial inclusion and upgrade payment services in the country. Alipay is the one who popularized QR code payments in China.
