10 WAYS TO BEAT STRESS | HELPING EMPLOYEES COPE WITH THE DEMANDS OF THEIR JOB

Stress Management Training has been quite in demand for many companies. Business Process Outsourcing outfits would give their employees Stress Management activities to help everyone cope with the demand of their job.

Let me share with you some tips which I use personally to minimize stress.

1. Plan!

I always have a toxic schedule because of the various roles I play in life. I am an entrepreneur; I design for my own handicraft business; I also do management consultancy and training which demand so much time; I write 4 blogs, and I still managed to teach in the graduate school during weekends. Many are wondering how do I manage all these things. I guess the answer may not be as simple as it sounds, but honestly, I simply plan my schedule very well.

Plan your activities,  prioritize the most important and break your tasks into smaller steps. As you plan your schedule,  learn how to say “No” to things that are not on your priority list.  Time-management and stress are directly related.  It is very simple: if you are not managing your time, you are not managing your life as effectively as you could.

2. Don’t Take It Personally

You can never please everyone. People may dislike you no matter how you try. Whatever people do, feel, think, or say, don’t take it personally.  I am not saying that you will shut your ears from feedback, just be gentle with yourself.

3.   Talk It Out

Do you feel like bursting? If yes, then talk to someone. One author said, “A problem shared is a problem half solved”. Find someone who you can speak to in a private, safe place and without judgment Also, sharing your problem to the one you trusted the most will enable you to ventilate the negative feelings you have inside.

Spend time with positive people. Breath of their positivity to increase your emotional strength.

4. Do what you love doing

Doing what you love is very relaxing. Each time I felt like I’m up to my neck, I would grab a brush and a paint and started to express myself through arts. Blogging and writing are also very relaxing for me. So, don’t forget your first love, it could be music, gardening….

5. Ask for a Professional Help

Now, after talking to friends and found that the problems are still there, you might want to seek professional help.  Being able to ask for help is a sign of maturity, not weakness.  Many people wallowed in misery because they refuse to seek help from other people. You can talk to a spiritual minister, a guidance counselor, a life coach and yes,  talk to a Psychiatrist when needed. Many people are scared to visit a psychiatrist because of the stigma.  But some problem needs medical attention.

6. Don’t compare yourself to others

Desiderata put it straight, “ If you compare yourself with other people…

In this very competitive world, it’s quite difficult not to look and compare ourselves with other, but we need to keep in mind that we are a completely different individual. Comparing ourselves to others will only result to lower our self-esteem and increased anxiety. Remind yourself always, everyone is unique.

Sweat it out! There are many ways to release that negative feeling…go for a  bike ride, take a walk with a friend, rollerblading if you can, or join a Zumba group etc. Endorphins are natural pain and stress relievers.   So go and move that body!

8. Retreat for a Stronger Attack

A retreat is not always bad. In fact, intelligent soldiers when to retreat and when to attack. So when the situation seemed too hard to handle, go and look out for a source of positive energy and stay there, inhale the good air instead. People will be surprised at the strength you will have the moment you will come back.

9. Pamper yourself

It depends on your budget, but whenever you can–Go and get a message.  Watch your favorite movie. Get your nails done. Take a bubble bath.  The options are unlimited, but the idea is to pamper yourself and relax.

10. Pray, pray and pray!

This must be the first on my list, but I opted to put it in the last because the ways to beat stress is endless. I always believe that a good relationship with our creator is the best way to beat stress in our lives.  Just remember this verse from  Philippians 4:13” I can do all things through Christ  who strengthens me.”

There you go, I hope that these ten tips will help you manage your stress well.

  5. Do you know any institution offering some stress management training that I can attend? I am into sales and the demands of my job is just terrible. Some of my colleagues opted to stop, but I guess I can do that unless I can transfer to another high paying job. Meanwhile, I think a seminar would be of great help. Thank you.
